A couple of founders came together around one central question: “How many descendants of U.S. chattel slavery are in the United States, and how can they be identified?” That question led to the creation of the DOUSCS Registry, with the mission growing beyond simply counting descendants into identification, documented genealogy, lineage verification, and certification.
Later, Dr. Randy Short joined the effort, helping establish and lead the DOUSCS Research Center/Research Division, bringing a more formal historical and genealogical research component to the organization.
Our mission is to defend, protect, and advance the interests of the Descendants by educating, engaging policymakers, and ensuring that public institutions uphold the rights and opportunities that belong to the descendants of US Chattel Slavery.
Our vision is a society in which public institutions uphold, laws, and policies consistently uphold and expand the rights, protections, and opportunities owed to the Descendants of U.S. Chattel Slavery, securing lasting justice and opportunity for generations to come.
